Today OpenTable released a Facebook app that gives consumers a new way to share their dining history and favorite restaurants with friends on the social network.
As the world’s leading provider of online reservations, OpenTable seats approximately 10 million diners per month across more than 27,000 restaurants. It also powers online reservations for nearly 600 partners, including many of the Internet’s most popular global and local brands.
Places I’ve Eaten lets diners list and rate the restaurants they’ve been to and those they’d like to visit in addition to the places their friends have listed and rated. OpenTable members can choose to keep their dining history private or allow the app to post to their Timeline.
The app also includes a mapping feature, enabling consumers to search for restaurants based on ratings, what they’re best known for (such as kid-friendly), and the places their Facebook friends have visited. Results include links to reserve a table through OpenTable’s website.
This isn’t the first time OpenTable has integrated with social media. Last May, the company partnered with Foursquare, giving diners the ability to make reservations through the location-based social network. And last October, OpenTable launched a free service that helps restaurants optimize their websites for mobile devices.
If you’re a current OpenTable customer, the Places I’ve Eaten Facebook app adds a nice value to your membership. Not only can it help create additional awareness for your business, but it could also help you learn about popular dishes or locations (if you manage multiple). The downside is that — in addition to Yelp, Instagram, and Foursquare — you have one more tool to keep an eye on for these metrics.
